Wild Dunes Author Weekend With Mary Alice Monroe

Join Mary Alice Monroe and a lineup of some of her favorite fellow authors at Wild Dunes Resort on January 15, 2023 at 2:00 pm for our annual Author Series!

This year for the 19th annual literary fundraiser, Mary Alice Monroe and Wild Dunes Resort are excited to welcome internationally known, #1 NY Times bestselling mystery and thriller authors David Baldacci and Kathy Reichs. Award-winning author and actress Deborah Goodrich Royce rounds out this stellar panel.

Guests will experience an in-depth and lively author conversation moderated by award-winning and New York Times bestselling novelist Mary Alice Monroe, who is an Isle of Palms resident and the creator of this literary series. Together on stage, in an intimate setting, she’ll dive deep into the authors’ storied careers, their personal lives, and what inspires their blockbuster mysteries.

In addition to the hour-long conversation, the literary event includes an author book signing hosted by Buxton Books. A signed hardcover book of your choice is included with your ticket. Additional autographed books will be available for guests to purchase (no outside books will be signed). There will also be an exclusive silent auction, a signature cocktail provided by Firefly Distillery, and hors d'oeuvres showcasing the flavors of Wild Dunes Resort.

About Mary Alice Monroe:

Mary Alice Monroe is the New York Times bestselling author of 27 books, including The Summer of Lost and Found, the 2021 installment in her beloved Beach House series. Monroe has also published children’s books which complement the environmental themes she is known for in her adult novels. About David Baldacci:

David Baldacci has been writing since childhood, when his mother gave him a lined notebook in which to write down his stories. (Much later, when David thanked her for being the spark that ignited his writing career, she revealed that she’d given him the notebook to keep him quiet, “because every mom needs a break now and then.”)

David published his first novel, Absolute Power, in 1996. The feature film adaptation followed, with Clint Eastwood as its director and star. About Kathy Reichs:

Kathy Reichs’s first novel Déjà Dead catapulted her to fame when it became a New York Times bestseller and won the 1997 Ellis Award for Best First Novel. Her other Temperance Brennan books include Death du Jour, Deadly Decisions, Fatal Voyage, Grave Secrets, Bare Bones, Monday Mourning, Cross Bones, Break No Bones, Bones to Ashes, Devil Bones, 206 Bones, Spider Bones, Flash and Bones, Bones Are Forever, Bones of the Lost, Bones Never Lie, Speaking in Bones and the Temperance Brennan short story collection, The Bone Collection.   In addition, Kathy co-authored the Virals young adult series with her son, Brendan Reichs. The best-selling titles are: Virals, Seizure, Code, Exposure, Terminal, and the novella collection Trace Evidence. She is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

Kathy will be promoting her latest novel, Cold Cold Bones, the newest edition to her Temperance Brennan books featuring the beloved TV heroine of Bones.

About Deborah Goodrich Royce:

Deborah Goodrich Royce's literary thrillers examine puzzles of identity. Finding Mrs. Ford and Ruby Falls will be joined by Reef Road in January 2023.
Deborah began her career as an actress, starring as Silver Kane, sister of the legendary Erica Kane (played by Susan Lucci) on the ABC soap, All My Children. She went on to star in feature films such as April Fool’s Day and Just One of the Guys, TV movies such as Return to Peyton Place and The Deliberate Stranger, and series such as Beverly Hills 90210 and 21 Jump Street.

After the birth of her daughters, she moved with her family to Paris and worked as a reader for le Studio Canal Plus. In the 1990's, Deborah was the story editor at Miramax Films in New York. There, she oversaw readers, manuscript acquisitions, and script development, editing such notable screenplays as Emma by Doug McGrath, and early versions of Chicago and A Wrinkle in Time.
With writing partner, Mitch Giannunzio, Deborah won a grant from the Massachusetts Arts Council in 2002 to develop and workshop their original screenplay, Susan Taft Has Run Amok.

Deborah serves on the governing boards of the New York Botanical Garden, the Greenwich Historical Society, and the PRASAD Project and the advisory boards of the American Film Institute, the Greenwich International Film Festival, the Preservation Society of Newport County, and the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach. She is a former trustee of the YWCA of Greenwich and the Garden Conservancy.
